Q Who?

After Picard refuses Q's request to join the crew, Q throws the Enterprise seven thousand light years away, where a Borg cube attacks and kills eighteen crew. With the ship helpless, Picard admits 'I need you!' and Q sends them back.

• Follows The Neutral Zone (S01E26): Outposts along the Neutral Zone were carried off in The Neutral Zone; in Q Who? Data compares a stripped planet to them just before the Borg cube appears.
• Leads to Best Of Both Worlds, part 1 (S03E26): Picard and Guinan predict in Q Who? that the Borg will return; in part 1 they arrive in Federation space.

First officer's log, stardate 42761.3. We have not been able to determine why, or how, Captain Picard left the Enterprise. We can't even be certain he is in the missing shuttle, although that is the assumption on which we are proceeding. For the last six hours, we have been searching without success.

Captain's log, stardate 42761.9. Despite Guinan's warning, I feel compelled to investigate this unexplored sector of the galaxy before heading back.

Captain's log, supplemental. We have been attacked without provocation by an alien race which Guinan calls the Borg. It appears that we have neutralised their vessel. Commander Riker is leading an away team in an attempt to learn more about them.

Captain's log supplemental. We are unable to maintain the gap between the Enterprise and the Borg ship.
