The First Duty

After a Nova Squadron cadet dies in a crash, squadron leader Locarno persuades Wesley and the others to hide that they attempted a banned Kolvoord Starburst. Picard works it out and tells Wesley to confess or he will. Wesley tells the inquiry; Locarno is expelled.

• Follows Final Mission (S04E09): Wesley, told in Final Mission to report to the Academy, is a cadet facing an inquiry in The First Duty.
• Referenced by Lower Decks (S07E15): Sito Jaxa, one of Wesley's Nova Squadron, is given a second chance by Picard.

Captain's log, stardate 45703.9. We are en route to Earth, where it will be my pleasant duty to deliver this year's commencement address at Starfleet Academy. I'm also looking forward to seeing Wesley Crusher again. His flight team will perform a demonstration near Saturn that will be transmitted to the graduation ceremonies.
